Two women have been arrested under new laws passed to stop the spread of prostitutes' cards in phone booths.
They were arrested outside phone boxes in Norfolk Square, Brighton, on Wednesday.
The arrests are thought to be the first in the city under the new laws, which came into effect last month.
The women, one 29 and the other 37, are both from the Brighton area.
They have been charged with the new offence of placing advertisements in telephone kiosks for the purpose of prostitution and will appear before Brighton magistrates on Tuesday.
PC Chris Smith, of Hove police, said: "The two women were arrested using new powers under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001.
"This makes it an offence to place advertisements in a telephone box relating to prostitution."
Offenders face up to six months in prison or a £5,000 fine.
