Three elderly women became have-a-go heroines when they were on a day trip to France.
Joan Windsor, Anne Aylward and Jean Douglas fought off a gunman who tried to hijack their car in Calais.
The attacker may have thought three mature English women were an easy target for some cash.
He will be thinking again after being attacked by them, forced to run away, and getting away with nothing.
Police are of course right not to recommend anyone in similar circumstances to lash out at an armed and dangerous man.
But the three elderly ladies showed enormous bravery and should be rewarded for their pluck.
