Eleven people arrested on Thursday night after a big police chase have been confirmed as illegal immigrants.
The group was caught after a two-hour operation across muddy farm fields near Chichester involving 30 officers, the force helicopter and tracker dogs.
Some of the group, who were first spotted by a passing police inspector, jumped into a canal to try to escape.
Police now say nine of the people arrested are from Poland and two from Lithuania.
A spokesman said: "Ten have been taken away to Cambridgeshire where they are being held by the Immigration Service and one person remains at Chichester police station."
