Bognor found themselves a goal down in the opening 15 minutes for the third game in a row.
But an improved second half performance enabled them to gain an away point from a 1-1 draw at Bromley in Division One.
Bognor made changes from their last game with the introduction of Andy Walker at right back, allowing Michael Birmingham to switch to the middle of the park.
Moses Jjunju put Bromley ahead in the 12th minute when he received a ball from Mark Tivey on the edge of the box and turned David Wright before unleashing a low drive past Craig Stoner.
But with two up front Bognor were more of a threat in the second half and they levelled on the hour when Russell rifled home Nick Wyatt's cross.
David Balfe and Wyatt were both denied by the woodwork in the closing stages as Bognor pressed for a winner.
Manager Jack Pearce said "It's disapointing when you go to a team at the bottom of the league and don't win, but I have said many times we can beat and lose to anybody in this league."
It gets no easier for Sammy Donnelly's Worthing following their third defeat in the last four Division One games, 2-0 at home to Thame United.
Thame made the perfect start when Nando Perna scored with a lofted shot from the edge of the area.
Chris Potter cashed in on some defensive hesitancy to head the second at the far post and the same player almost struck again when his right foot shot from 18 yards came back off the woodwork.
Thame keeper Steve Smith was forced to make saves from Mark Knee and Ben Carrington in the second half and Mark Burt also fired over from and acute angle, but Worthing struggled to impose themselves on the game.
A goal in each half saw Horsham secure a 2-1 win at Metropolitan Police in Division Two, but the closeness of the scoreline left manager John Maggs fuming at his side's poor finishing.
"We should have scored six or seven in the first half," he said. "I've got to get us a finisher."
Marcel Dennis scored the opener after eight minutes moments after he'd had a shot cleared off the line.
Gary Charman missed an open goal beforee James Gill levelled on 47 minutes with a shot from 20 yards.
The winner came on the hour. Jamie Taylor sent Ben Jones through on goal and he beat the keeper with a dipping shot.
