Every now and then a software developer comes up with an idea that looks like a winner.
The notion of a single software application that can handle all aspects of business administration and book-keeping sounds a bit far-fetched but My Business offers all the right components and, apart from a rather spartan interface, delivers the goods in style.
Given the average small business person spends about 60 per cent of his or her time on administration-related tasks (figure supplied by the software developers), it would seem sensible to reduce this by as much as possible.
My Business covers contacts, time management, book-keeping and stock control and has a rather neat-looking payroll facility that bolts on to the basic package.
A really useful feature is the business correspondence section, offering templates for business letters, a mail-shot facility and the option to send out correspondence by email or post.
There are templates for invoices, quotes, delivery notes, receipts, covering letters, reminders, overdue letters, credit notes, fax documents and price lists. In fact, almost all the business paper work a company could need in digital format.
All the business letters can be made to default into MS Word or Works for customisation and there is the facility to print envelopes directly from the main business database.
It isn't really rocket science but the time it could save a small company would make it worth a fortune to a hard-pressed business person.
It isn't perfect but it is pretty good and will handle almost any challenge. It even offers a stock control feature and allows users to share their diaries.
