A University of Sussex petition protesting about the war in Afghanistan has collected 1,000 signatures in a week.
The Sussex University Coalition Against the War petition was signed by 760 staff and students and 278 other people linked to the university.
A coalition spokesman said: "The aim of the statement is to enable people to dissociate themselves publicly from this war on an impoverished Third World country, which is being waged by the Government in their name but without their consent."
The petition will be sent to Downing Street.
