Bus services were expected to be disrupted today as union members staged the first in a series of 24-hour strikes over pay and conditions.
Around 100 Stagecoach workers were taking part in industrial action in Hastings and St Leonards.
Services were expected to be affected by the dispute although Stagecoach bosses planned to draft in other staff to minimise disruption.
Members of the Transport and General Workers' Union claimed Stagecoach had imposed a three per cent wage increase but had cut back their sick pay scheme.
Mike Johnson, the union's regional industrial organiser, said 24-hour strikes would take place every Monday until the dispute was resolved.
He said: "We regret having to take this action."
Neil Instrell, Stagecoach's divisional manager, said: "We have implemented a 20p per hour increase which certainly works out more than the three per cent the union is talking about."
