Instead of grumbling about being moved from one three-star hotel to another, Clare Gaunt (Letters, November 3) should consider herself very lucky to be given free housing in one of the most desirable parts of Hove, on the seafront.
To say Brighton and Hove City Council is saving money by moving these people is ridiculous, as it now has to pay rent for the whole of St Catherine's Lodge Hotel, whereas it only paid for a few rooms in the Sackville.
Also, it has splashed out on buying new cookers, fridges and mattresses for them (even paying customers had to make do with the old mattresses).
Most of us have had to work hard and save to be able to buy a home in this area and now we are faced with the prospect of our properties being devalued because of the proximity of council housing for the homeless.
We all pay high council tax in this area but, if this situation continues, we will all be demanding a reduction in our rateable values so the council can use some of its spare cash to give us hard-pressed taxpayers a rebate.
