It struck me recently that we are manipulating certain memorial dates on our calendar.
Examples that come to mind are: November 11, Armistice Day, celebrated on the nearest Sunday.
May 1, which should be May Day, is celebrated with a Spring Bank Holiday on the nearest Monday to May 1.
November 5, Guy Fawkes Day, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 5th but mostly Saturday.
What next? Christmas, perhaps, or Easter?
