New manager Terry White is looking forward to the extra responsibilty after his shock move to St Leonards this week.
White, who was coach with near neighbours Hastings, picks his first side for tomorrow's home game against Spalding United.
He said: "I already had a lot of managerial responsibilities at Hastings. I took training and talked to the players before, during and after games. The only thing I did not do was pick the team.
"I'm looking forward to working with Dominic Barclay who is a natural goalscorer and Des Boateng, I like the way the he gets about on the pitch and wants to win. Danny Fletcher is a good player too."
White's brief is to include more local players in the side.
He said: "I think fans would rather watch a team with players that they can relate to than a side in the top half they hardly know. But my priority is to create a successful team."
The new Saints boss has taken his cousin Glyn White as his assistant.
Hastings manager manager George Wakeling said he was "amazed" by White's move but insists it is business as usual. Hastings have appointed Jack Dalton as their new coach.
