Paul Brooker has pledged to force his way back into first team contention.
The former Fulham wide man was left out of the squad for Albion's 1-0 win at Bristol City last Saturday.
He made a rare appearance in the reserves on Wednesday night in a 2-2 draw against Cheltenham at Worthing.
Brooker said: "Peter Taylor explained things to me and said he thought I needed a rest. Obviously I was disappointed, but I've accepted the decision.
"My aim is to get back in the squad as quickly as possible. I haven't been out of it since joining the club, apart from at Torquay last season when I was injured.
"It did come as a shock, but I have got to try to force my way back in by impressing in reserve games and doing well in training."
Brooker, bought by former boss Micky Adams from Fulham for £25,000, admits he has not been at his best recently.
"I wasn't playing away from home as much under Micky, because of the squad rotation system, and in the last few games I seem to have lost confidence a bit.
"Hopefully I can get that back and I will be firing on all cylinders again."
The reserve match also marked the return of Scott Ramsay. The young striker was overweight when he reported back in the summer, so Adams transfer-listed him and sent him to Yeovil for a three-month loan spell.
"I didn't look after myself and Micky Adams didn't like it, which was fair enough," said Ramsay. "I was very unprofessional and paid the consequences.
"I thoroughly enjoyed myself down at Yeovil. I played a lot of games and gained good experience, so I feel it was beneficial to me."
Ramsay was replaced by Daniel Marney in the second half on Wednesday night, but Marney was quickly forced off by a recurrence of thigh trouble.
"With Daniel pulling his thigh again Dirk Lehmann is the only other centre forward on the bench," Ramsay said.
"There is always a chance with Peter Taylor coming in that he might like something in me.
"If not then I have got six to eight months left on my contract and if things don't work out I will have to start looking somewhere else."
