Bonfire night celebrations have been given the go-ahead in Eastbourne - for December.
Eastbourne Bonfire Society (EBS) applied to the town's borough council to use seafront land near the Sovereign Centre for fireworks and a bonfire.
The society, which has not organised an event for 40 years, plans to hold the bonfire on December 21 to coincide with the winter solstice.
A procession will walk from the seafront, near the Wish Tower, to the barbecue area, where a firework display and bonfire will be held.
Suggestions for effigies to be burnt have so far included the Belle Tout lighthouse.
EBS is to meet tonight at The Lamb Inn, High Street, Eastbourne and every Monday after, to discuss safety and appoint fire marshals.
