Major tax changes are imminent for all company car drivers and directors or employees who use their own cars for work journeys.
Tax specialist Ray Chidell, a partner at accountants Mazars Neville Russell's Brighton office, warned choices made now might have an impact on take-home pay for years to come.
He said: "New rules come in from April that will radically change the way company car drivers are treated by the tax authorities, more than doubling the tax cost for some drivers.
"Those using their own cars for work journeys will be affected by new tax rules."
Mr Chidell, co-author of tax book Company Cars, has written two fact sheets especially for employees who need to know more about the changes.
One explains the chan-ges affecting company car drivers and the other sets out the new rules for those who use their own vehicles for work journeys.
