Many young children in Brighton and Hove have diets so poor that they never eat any fresh fruit or vegetables.
Their diets are worse than those of youngsters who grew up in grim conditions during and after the Second World War.
The Fresh Ideas Project aims to end all that by persuading them that eating fruit and veg can be fun as well as good for them.
While many kids will baulk at Brussels spouts or turn up their noses at turnips, most will learn to love peas, beans, strawberries, apples and bananas.
It can also be cheaper for families to buy fruit and veg rather than rely on ready-cooked meals - an important consideration for poorer parents.
Diets full of fruit and veg will also make kids healthier, preventing them from turning into what might be called couch potatoes.
