Two gunmen threatened to harm a five-month-old baby in a raid on a Rustington pub.
The men burst into the living quarters of The Lamb in The Street shortly after closing time on Sunday.
They escaped with cash after threatening the couple who run the pub and their baby, police said today.
One of the men was armed with a sawn-off shotgun and the other brandished a handgun.
A spokeswoman for Scottish and Newcastle Retail, which runs the venue, said: "We can confirm there was a robbery at the pub on Sunday evening.
"This was very distressing for the managers but fortunately they were unhurt and we are doing all we can to assist the police with their inquiries."
The raid took place at about 11.15pm, shortly after the last customers had left.
A police spokesman said: "Two men with firearms entered the living quarters and threatened the couple and a five-month-old baby.
"Both men held the occupants at gunpoint and a quantity of cash was taken before they left in a red vehicle."
The robbers are described as white and in their late 30s or early 40s.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw suspicious activity near the pub on Sunday night to contact Worthing CID on 0845 6070999.
Philip Woodbury and Kerry Knight have been joint managers of the pub for the last three years.
The Scottish and Newcastle spokeswoman said the couple had gone away for a week to try and put their ordeal behind them.
