So now Brighton and Hove City Council is finally admitting the lack of affordable housing in the city has reached crisis proportions (The Argus, November 9).
One of the reasons for people voting No to the campaigners for an elected mayor was that the pro-mayor supporters were the ones who launched the Place To Be campaign, which irresponsibly encouraged people to come here when there was already a shortage of affordable housing.
Marketing the city to Londoners encouraged many to relocate here or, worse still, buy up homes for weekend or holiday use only.
A start on tackling the crisis would be no council tax concessions for second homes, a halt to council house sales and much more state investment in social housing.
