Police are investigating a spate of collection box thefts in the Eastbourne and Hailsham area.
Ten boxes, for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Breast Cancer Research, have been stolen from shops, hotels and garages in the past month.
A police spokesman said: "These are sickening acts carried out by thoughtless people who have disregarded the spirit in which the donations were made."
He added: "We would urge all shops and businesses to be aware of the location of any charity boxes they are displaying."
"Charitable causes often strike a chord with members of the public and where possible safeguards should be put in place to protect charity boxes against thieves."
Anyone with information should call police on 0845 6070999.
