Film director Ken Russell worked his screen magic on a BBC documentary set in Brighton.

The half-hour documentary for BBC2's Southern Eye is called Ken Russell Meets Brighton Belles.

The documentary follows two 22-year-old American women.

The camera crew, directed by Mr Russell, was following the women on the tourist trail around the city, including the pier, the pavilion, the aquarium and other venues in the city.

The team are keeping tight-lipped as to the real reason why the girls have come to Brighton from the States but this will be revealed when the documentary is screened on Thursday, December 6, at 7.30pm.

Jenny Craddock, the BBC producer behind the documentary, said she hoped Mr Russell would appear in the documentary.

She said: "We're not going to tell you the reason why the girls are here and you can find that out when you watch the documentary but they've been having great fun here in Brighton."

Mr Russell was the director behind film hits including Gothic and Tommy, in 1975, which was The Who's innovative rock opera with Roger Daltrey playing the "deaf, dumb and blind kid" whose pinball prowess makes him a global sensation.
