After two successive 5-1 away wins, Bognor ran out of goals at home as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bishops Stortford in Division One.

Boss Jack Pearce said: "If we fail to gain promotion, we will look back at the number of games we dominated but failed to win. Our play in the last third left room for improvement."

Bognor had the better of the opening stages and when David Wright was found on the angle of the box he disappointingly screwed his shot over the bar.

Richard Hudson then tested visiting keeper Micky Desborough before Wright shot narrowly wide of the far post.

Stortford were happy to sit back and soak up everything the Rocks threw at them, relying on the hustle and bustle of Vinnie John and Trevor Paul up front on the breakaway.

Rocks' goalkeeper Craig Stoner was called into action late in the half and he did well to deny Paul at his near post.

The early stages of the second half saw Michael Birmingham denied by a fine last ditch tackle from Alex Riches. The Bognor midfielder then gifted John with an opening when the striker latched onto his misplaced pass, but he blasted well over.

The visitors were reduced to ten men late in the game when Owen Beale was shown the second of his yellow cards, having been booked in the first half.

A superb late goal from Marc Salmon sentenced Worthing to their first league defeat under caretaker boss Barry Lloyd as Rebels went down 2-1 at highly placed Harlow Town.

Ben Carrington cancelled out a first-half volley from Marvin Samuel early in the second half, but Salmon clinched it with a beauty 16 minutes from time.

He fired into the top left-hand corner from 20 yards after latching on to a through ball from Mark Tompkins.

Rebels, who should have scored through Gavin Geddes just before Salmon's strike, were denied in the last minute when substitute Tony McNally cleared a left- foot shot from Carrington off the line.

Harlow, thrashed 6-1 by Worthing on the opening day of the season, displayed more venom and killer instinct, but Worthing were unlucky in the opening phases and Darren Baxter twice had efforts disallowed.

Martin Young fired over and Salmon forced a fine save from James Wastell before Samuel broke the deadlock on 35 minutes.

Carrington equalised with a back header on the goal line 13 minutes after the break from Baxter's corner on the right, which came after Geddes had a shot blocked.

Carrington was later unlucky to be booked following a challenge with keeper James Hasell, who twice deliberately kicked out at the Worthing man when on the ground but escaped punishment.

Three players were sent off as Lewes lost 1-0 to an 87th-minute goal against Ashford Town in division two.

The first half was an even affair with Ashford goalkeeper Simon Kent having to make three good saves to deny Sam Francis and Andy Johnsonwith his feet before blocking an intelligent Dominic Shepherd chip.

The game turned in a three-minute spell either side of the 74th minute when both sides were reduced to ten men after Lewes's Justin Harris and Ashford's Jamie Keith were dismissed following a minor scuffle.

The Rooks' sweeper Paul Thomsett was booked for dissent following the incident and was sent off two minutes later for a challenge that earnt him his second yellow card.

The nine men of Lewes almost snatched victory seven minutes from time but a shot from Ross Venables struck the bar with Kent well beaten.

However the sting for the visitors came when Ashford substitute Jim Heggarty crashed a shot off the angle of post and bar, the ball only just crossing the line.
