Liberal Democrats and other letter-writers delude themselves surmising neighbourhood forums with costly budgets will solve the growing problem of too remote, secretive local government.
Only council elections can create more open local government by avoiding votes going to political party career ward councillors.
If local council elections were to reject party politics, this would herald a revolution in local government and increase citizen involvement.
Party politics has become a worthless bore, therefore should be confined to the House of Commons where it is kept to the point by the European courts and Commission until the Commons becomes a second chamber to an inevitable sovereign European Parliament.
Some years ago, Hove councillors so annoyed a committee chairman he retorted he was not there to waste his time on House of Commons-type squabbles, he was there to debate the growing problems of Hove.
It is time council elections got rid of all party political time-wasters in local government.
