Old habits died hard for policewoman-turned-milk lady Krysha Martin when a drink-driver crashed next to her float.
Krysha was on her rounds in Brighton early yesterday when the car smashed into a bollard just yards away.
Krysha dialled 999 on her mobile as she ran to the scene. She checked the driver and found him uninjured but the worse for drink.
To make sure he could do no more harm, she snatched the keys from the ignition and waited for the police.
She said: "He was slumped across the passenger seat, stinking, and I was determined he wasn't going to drive away."
Krysha, 27, was a policewoman in Hove until she broke her shoulder while skiing.
She has been delivering milk for Coombe Farm Dairies for 16 months and it was the second time she has dealt with a drink-driver this year.
She said: "I thought being a milk lady would be peaceful."
Sussex Police have launched a Christmas crackdown on drink-drivers.
A spokesman said: "Taking the keys away may have prevented more serious consequences and we are grateful to Krysha."
