An emailer, whose electronic address gives no clue to his or her identity, was "shocked" by last Thursday's front page.
He or she objected to the juxtaposition of the front page advertisement and the main headline, "Guilty", above a report on the conviction of Sarah Payne's killer Roy Whiting.
The advert for Brighton underwear shop Brief Encounter showed what the emailer describes as a picture of a "scantily-clad woman in provocative pose".
"It would be tasteless anyway," he or she says, "but particularly so given the story. Surely your newspaper has a duty to behave responsibly in what it publishes and the adverts it includes."
The answer, of course, is we do and there have been a handful of occasions when we have removed front-page advertisements for reasons of taste - with clients' agreement.
On this occasion, there simply wasn't time since the trial verdict had happened outside our normal edition times and the evening edition was therefore later than usual to allow us to report it.
As to the advertisement itself, the picture was perhaps understandable since underwear purchase is popular at this time of year and I certainly saw nothing distasteful in it that made it worthy of removal from the normal front page, where, after all, the client had paid for it to appear.
In our Worthing edition on Monday, we stated the Litten Tree pub in the town would be closing on New Year's Eve - and then that the closing date would be January 31.
Well, for those confused, the final pint will indeed be pulled on December 31 and not a month later.
Jerry Laurie's letter on December 13 condemning the processing of a planning application for a mobile phone mast at Kingsway, Hove, could have given the impression he had still to look at the council's files.
In fact, the retired surveyor had already done so - hence his ability to comment. Sorry, Jerry, we misread your handwriting.
Now, it the season of goodwill, so it was good to hear Worthing Rugby Football Club commercial manager Michael Perring praise our report of the club's game against Brighton in last week's Sports Argus and The Argus on Tuesday last week, as follows:
"Brian Owen produced excellent text and the photos reflected a very important match.
"I know Worthing won but the fact you gave this amount of column inches is very gratifying and has certainly increased your sales among the many rugby followers in our area. Please pass on our thanks."
Thank you, Mr Perring, and I will.
Similarly, a Mrs Gibson, of Brighton, rang to say how much she enjoyed our new look and found it much easier to read than some national dailies I won't mention. Many thanks.
And here's my own little Christmas gift, although the sharp-eyed among you might have already spotted it if you scanned the listings pages of our festive television and radio guide on Wednesday.
I can reveal that in response to the (small) number of readers who have complained about our television listings layout we are to improve the aspects you didn't like.
That means restoring the channel numbers to numerical order (as we did in the festive guide) and including more of tomorrow morning's TV. It will happen as of Monday, January 7.
Never let it be said we don't listen to our readers. Merry Christmas to you all.
