It cannot be right to describe facilities for Sinn Fein MPs at Westminster as "perks" (Letters, December 21).
Until now, those democratically elected MPs - elected because they are republicans - have been debarred from Westminster for refusing allegiance to a queen who was not herself elected. It is a scandal and an infringement of human rights to require oaths of allegiance in a democratic society.
Most people believe the monarchy should be abolished. All these people are excluded from being MPs under the present system. I am glad the Labour Party is committed to creating for each of us the means to realise our true potential. In time, oaths of allegiance will fade away, our head of state will be directly elected and the position open to anyone.
