Peter Warren (Steyning) won a convincing victory in the annual Alf Palmer 5,000m Yacht Handicap Walk at Broadbridge Heath.
After a good track season at under-15s, Warren moved into the under-17 age group and was racing for the first time on the track over the distance.
Warren took a quick lead and, although some of the back markers closed down on him, he still had a half a lap in hand at the finish.
Veteran Richard Emsley was second and also proved second fastest on actual times in 24min. 30sec, behind scratch man Darrell Stone in 21min. 25sec.
Warren was fourth fastest with an impressive debut clocking of 26min. 53sec.
