Police are investigating a city centre street robbery which put a man in hospital.
The victim, a man in his 20s, was walking home along Cheapside near Pelham Street, Brighton, when he heard people running behind him.
He was smashed on the back of the head, possibly with a bottle, and collapsed in the street.
His rucksack was wrenched from his back.
The man was later taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for stitches to a head wound.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, especially a couple who helped the victim to a phone box after the incident on Sunday evening.
