A blueprint for the future of Worthing has just been published and it is a double-edged sword.
It suggests the number of homes earmarked for the last tract of countryside in the borough at West Durrington should be reduced from 825 to 700.
That will delight campaigners fighting to limit development in the district, although most would prefer to see a further scaling down in the total of proposed properties.
However, plans for 90 homes on the south-facing slope of the Downs, at the top of Beeches Avenue, where horses are currently stabled, have been tabled.
Residents fear local roads won't be able to cope with the cars generated by this mini estate and some have vowed to move.
They have a point. The nearby Lyons Farm junction is already a traffic nightmare and more houses in the area will simply add to the congestion.
