Sir Ernest Shackleton was one of the greatest British adventurers of the 20th Century.
And next year he will quite rightly be remembered for his exploits in the Antarctic wastes.
After his ship, the Endurance, broke up after being frozen in by sea ice, he mounted an extraordinary mission to save his crew from a desperate, miserable, lingering death. He crossed freezing seas in an open boat to raise the alarm.
Now TV and movie moguls are finally catching up with history to portray Shackleton's incredible story on the small and big screen.
So it seems a shame that Eastbourne, where he once lived, has so far planned nothing to coincide with what should be a major surge of interest.
Hopefully, the borough council will respond and give the resort's residents a display to be proud of.
