As a recent visitor to the Brighton area, I decided I would use public transport rather than rent a car. What a good decision.
Not only were the buses frequent and convenient but the saver fares were economical and easy to use.
The piece de resistance, though, came on my last day in Brighton.
My mother-in-law and I had decided to visit Steyning. We arrived at Churchill Square in good time for the 10:09am bus, however, it indicated it was only going to Shoreham so we let it go.
It was not until 10:30am that my mother-in-law contacted the inspector and we discovered our error.
I was quite disappointed as I had to be back in Brighton by 4pm and it didn't seem worth making the journey.
Can you imagine my surprise when the inspector informed us that, because the mistake was theirs, they were sending a car to take us and two other ladies, who had intended taking that bus, to Steyning?
It was a very pleasant journey.
When the driver discovered I was visiting from Canada, he turned down Grand Avenue and took the scenic seafront route.
We arrived in Steyning at the same time as if we had caught the bus.
I was very impressed and send praise to the management and staff of Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company for making riding the buses such a positive and user-friendly system.
