A gang caused thousands of pounds' worth of damage to parked cars in a wrecking spree today.
Residents in Woodingdean, Brighton, thought they heard gunfire but in fact it was the sound of glass smashing.
The gang of young men, believed to have been using a stolen car, smashed windscreens and rear and side windows.
Two cars were smashed in the driveway of a house in Foxdown Road just after 12.30am. At least one other car was attacked in Seaview Road.
The gang smashed a hole in the boot of a Ford Sierra parked in the driveway of the house in Foxdown Road as well as the rear window and the windscreen.
They smashed the back window and damaged the roof of a Ford Fiesta parked alongside.
One of the owners of the cars, who did not want to be named, said: "I was woken by what I thought was the sound of gunfire. I looked out and saw four young men driving off in a car.
"The damage is quite considerable. The driveway is a sea of glass. I am so angry that you can't even park your car in the driveway of your home without it being safe.
"I have got no enemies. This is not a revenge attack or anything."
