Jack the Ripper may have planned his series of grisly murders while staying on the Sussex coast.
The idea is being explored by tour guide Glenda Clarke in her latest ghost walk.
No one has ever discovered the identity of the killer, who slaughtered women in Victorian London.
But there have been many theories, including some aired in the letters page of The Argus.
Glenda said: "It is one of the most famous unsolved murder mysteries and his name is known throughout the world. I haven't met anyone from any country who didn't know him.
"The latest book by an author convinced she knows the Ripper's identity is just one of a long line of such works, all with different suspects.
"I will explain the theory behind a book published a few years ago which said the Ripper was a former surgeon who planned the murders while staying in a pub in The Lanes before going up to Whitechapel to put his plans into action."
The next ghost walk takes place from Brighton Town Hall on Saturday at 8pm and will not be cancelled whatever the weather. Tickets cost £4.50 on the night and there is no need to book.
It lasts 90 minutes, taking in The Lanes and two ancient graveyards. There will be a full account of hauntings past and present.
