A rail company is offering a £1,000 reward following an unprovoked attack on a train guard.
The guard received head injuries in the assault, which happened at Portslade station.
South Central Trains is offering the reward for information leading to the conviction of the attacker.
The guard told police he spotted a group of youths on the platform as the train pulled into the station at 5.16pm on New Year's Eve.
They asked him when the next train was and, as the train pulled away, he was either punched or hit by a bottle.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "The attack just came out of the blue. He was in a state of shock so just stayed on the train until he got to Hove station.
"It was a completely unprovoked attack."
The conductor was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose, cuts and bruising. He is now recovering at home.
