A man beaten senseless in a pub toilet has regained consciousness and is being treated by his reflexologist wife.

Paul Titherington, 25, has been able to kiss his wife Kate for the first time since he was attacked on New Year's Eve.

Mrs Titherington, 33, of Bayham Road, Hailsham, has visited his hospital bedside night and day since he was left semi-conscious.

She said: "He was planning to see the New Year in with myself and his children. The first I knew of the attack was when one of our friends called at my home and told me Paul had been injured.

"I have got no feelings for the people who did this to my husband. I feel nothing for them at all. I am just not interested in them in the slightest. My primary concern is for the speedy recovery of Paul."

Mrs Titherington, a reflexologist, received a text message from her husband shortly before he was beaten up in the George Hotel, George Street, Hailsham, at 10.30pm.

She has given her husband a variety of complementary treatments during his time at Eastbourne District General Hospital, where he was admitted with serious head injuries.

She said: "He has really been responding to some of the treatments I have been giving him.

"When he first arrived there I gave him a series of anti-inflammatory essential oils to bring down the swelling. Since then I have been giving him reviving oils to bring him round."

The couple will have been married for a year in April.

Mr Titherington, who is studying mechanical repair at Sussex Downs College, has a three-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, two foster daughters aged 16 and 14 and three step-daughters, aged 15, 11 and nine with Kate.

Mrs Titherington said: "It was amazing to actually feel him kiss me, especially after what he has been through.

"When he was admitted, the injuries he received were quite horrific so for him to come out of his semi-conscious state is wonderful."

Police are continuing inquiries into the incident and ask anyone with information to call them on 0845 6070999.
