There is a very clearly written and authoritative reference book called The Oxford Companion To The Bible, edited by Bruce M Melzger and Michael D Cooper.

I really think some of the recent correspondents on religious belief would do well to buy it and read it in conjunction with a good, up-to-date translation of the Bible.

Our standard King James Bible is very beautiful but is considered by many to be a flawed translation because of the political, religious and royal pressure on the translators at the time.

If you read the dedication at the front, they all sound terrified.

I have five different translations of the Bible and only the King James version uses the name Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12).

All the others use Day Star, Son of the Morning or Son of Dawn and are quite clearly referring to the King of Babylon.
