Jimmy Quinn watched his injury-hit side extend their lead at the top of Ryman League division two to five points and then blasted his players.
The Rooks boss was furious after Lewes needed two late strikes to see off their mid-table opposition and afterwards Quinn locked his players in the changing room.
Striker Dominic Shepherd struck twice after the interval either side of a goal from midfielder Chris Dicker to earn Lewes the points, but Quinn was far from impressed.
"It was the worst game here this season," he said. "That was a terrible performance, we ground out a result, but I thought the performance was poor.
"I've said well done for winning, that's the most important thing. However, I wasn't happy with the performance or attitude of the players. I don't think it was complacency.
"Some of the players have played a lot of games but we started very slowly again. We can't keep waiting until something goes wrong before we start to play.
"We have another game on Saturday and then a break, so I'll be working the players very hard on Thursday night at training."
Lewes were lacklustre in the first half and the visitors, who only arrived 20 minutes before kick-off after their coach driver got lost, started the brighter.
In the fifth minute Craig Dennis headed Steve Harrison's corner narrowly over and on ten minutes the home team were indebted to keeper Ross Standen who prevented Tilbury from snatching the lead with an excellent stop.
Jean-Marie Okita slipped the ball to Jay Izzet in the box but Standen was off his line smartly to make a block from Muzzy Izzet's cousin.
Lewes already missing key players Justin Harris, Sam Francis and Paul Stokes through injury, were dealt another setback when young marksman Lee Newman was carried off with an ankle injury in the 25th minute.
The Rooks took the lead eight minutes after the re-start when Ross Venables was tripped in the box and Shepherd converted the spot kick for his 25th goal of the season.
Shepherd was then denied twice in quick succession as first James Nicholls tipped a shot over and then defender Ian Renshaw headed his goalbound effort over the bar.
Quinn's team eventually doubled their lead with a well-worked free-kick routine five minutes before time which saw Dicker lash home a low left foot shot into the corner.
Shepherd completed the win in stoppage time as he walzed past Nicholls and nutmegged Dennis on the line.
