A Seaford care home will be turned into a hostel for single parents despite fears it could lead to children running wild.
Council bosses last night approved plans to change Abbots Leigh in Sutton Road.
They heard new Government care home standards, which come into effect in April, had forced its closure.
Applicant Horizon Housing Group told Lewes District Council planners it wanted to convert the detached property into a six-bedroom hostel with a creche, a lounge and a play room.
They said up to 11 children and six adults would be resident, with an on-call worker based locally if needed.
The proposal prompted objections from 12 households that the nearby A259 would be dangerous to youngsters playing outside.
They also said parking was inadequate and there would be noise and disturbance.
But Lewes district councillors disagreed and voted six-four in favour of the conversion.
Councillor Marie Smith, Lib Dem for Seaford North, said: "A lot was said but I couldn't find anything to support its refusal."
