Gatwick suffered badly from people's fear of flying after the tragic events in the USA on September 11.
The number of passengers dropped sharply and several companies, including British Airways, are giving up slots at the airport.
Now other companies such as low-cost operator easyJet are moving into the vacated slots.
This is good news for travellers since it means as many services as before will be operating from Gatwick.
What's more, many of them will be at bargain prices operated by thriving concerns such as easyJet.
They were canny enough to tempt people on to their planes after September 11 with an aggressive marketing campaign.
BA, which was already experiencing problems before that time, is cutting back and will not be greatly missed.
