Rocker Dave Gilmour is in the process of donating the £4.5 million proceeds from the sale of his second home to charity.
The former Pink Floyd star, who lives with his family in a farmhouse in Billingshurst, near Horsham, is in discussions with homeless charity Crisis.
The cash comes from the sale of his London home, which he bought nearly two decades ago for £300,000 but has rarely used in recent years.
Gilmour, 54, refused to comment on the gift yesterday.
A spokeswoman said: "Yes, he has given it but it's a private matter and he doesn't want to comment on it any further."
Crisis, which helps homeless people rebuild their lives and is dedicated to the relief of poverty, confirmed it was in talks with Gilmour's DG Charitable Trust.
A spokeswoman said: "It has supported us for a number of years.
"We are constantly in touch with the trust about new ideas but nothing has been confirmed yet."
