Might it not have been more sensible and certainly less arrogant for A West (Letters, January 10) to have allowed the Chief Constable more than four days in office before seeking special treatment for a particular area of the county?

Bearing in mind the challenge that faces him, anyone who expects Mr Jones to react to letters like Mr West's without first having familiarised himself with the whole of his new command should consider joining the real world.
