Councillors were deciding today if a controversial farmers' market should continue after complaints it has harmed trade in a town's shopping centre.
The monthly market at Selsey was approved for a year by Chichester District Council.
But after only two months, shopkeepers and town councillors have urged a halt, backed by a 630-signature petition.
Produce must be grown or produced within a 30-mile radius.
But Selsey town clerk Fred Robertson claimed some traders lived well outside the boundary and produce from New Zealand had been seen on sale.
Traders also believed some hygiene standards "left a lot to be desired."
