Park-and-ride works well in taking large numbers of supporters to Brighton and Hove Albion home matches at Withdean stadium throughout the season.
Now Brighton and Hove City Council is thinking of introducing a similar scheme for big matches at the county cricket ground in Eaton Road.
It's a good idea to get as many people as possible to a city centre sporting arena by public transport.
But cricket matches last for most of the day, rather than soccer matches, where play lasts for 90 minutes or so.
They also don't normally attract such big crowds as the Albion except for some one-day games or matches against the touring side from abroad.
Mill Road, the site used for Albion matches, is also too far away from the cricket ground and other sites might be better, such as the Norton Road car park.
The introduction of a residents' parking scheme around the cricket ground has made some form of park-and-ride desirable and a pilot scheme is worth considering.
