In response to the Voice Of The Argus "Blow To Falmer Dreams" (January 11), I am disappointed, though not surprised, to note Lewes councillors have voted overwhelmingly against the Albion's plans for a new stadium at Falmer.
This is yet another example of councillors using their own political and personal views to overrule the wishes of their constituents in important cultural decisions.
Whether the local planners, councillors and MPs wish to believe it or not, the Albion are of enormous local cultural importance and at a time when the club are making progress on the field there is no end in sight to the chaos that reigns in regard to their ground.
The fact that a ground would need to be built on greenfield land in what is now a National Park is surely no surprise because Brighton and Hove is surrounded by the South Downs.
But for Councillor Graham Mayhew to state that the proposals would "drive a coach and horses through the concept of a National Park" is ridiculous.
A community stadium of this type is a one-off and could never be considered anything other than that.
It could not create a planning precedent for other forms of development.
Sensible and practical brownfield sites are simply not available with sufficiently developed infrastructure to accommodate a development of this size, including Shoreham Harbour.
Toad Hole Valley, Waterhall and now Falmer have all been rejected. We are rapidly running out of options.
