I am not totally surprised elderly people move from Brighton and Hove because the city does not cater for anyone over the age of 35.
I found Councillor Kielty's negative comments on elderly people insulting (The Argus, January 10).
Most older people have a strong work ethic and were very reticent about borrowing money and living beyond their means.
Most people over a certain age miss the old-style pubs with their regular characters.
I have had many interesting and enlightening conversations with people who have lived most of their life in Brighton.
It is ridiculous to bar from pubs people who are over 40 or those younger ones who are not fashionably dressed. It creates a bland and characterless society.
The Star of Brunswick had Noel Coward and the man who used to strike the gong on Rank films as customers (he always sat on the same stool in the corner). Both would be considered "over the hill" if they attempted to gain entrance to C-Side's bars.
I know people who have moved away from Brighton and Hove, stating they felt too old to live in the city. I could not help agreeing with them.
Brighton and Hove should cater for everyone, irrespective of age, religion or nationality. And the more eccentrics, the better - where have they all gone?
