The Waitec Caddy 03 and Caddy 24 (with flash) are exceptionally lightweight digital cameras and very easy to use.
They offer point-and-click functionality, a decent lens and a very adequate software package.
They are robust and work straight from the box.
At about £50, they offer an inexpensive way of capturing digital photographs and, although they only deliver 640x480 pixel images, the quality is surprisingly good.
From unpacking the neat little Caddy 03 to taking my first picture took rather less than four minutes.
I didn't bother to read the manual but, if I had, I would have discovered I could have set up the camera as a webcam and taken photographs directly from my PC.
Having taken about 70 pictures, I popped the software CD into my computer, connected up the USB cable supplied with the package and all the images downloaded from the camera without any hassle at all.
What impressed me most was the way Waitec supplies everything you need straight out of the box. Batteries, USB cable, a little pouch to keep the camera in and even a miniature tripod.
While these cameras are pretty basic, Waitec also manufactures more complex units.
A simple power switch, shutter release and auto-everything-else is all you really need anyway.
Price: £49 (Caddy 03); £59 (Caddy 24 with built-in flash).
