The chapel building Countess of Huntingdon (Weekend, January 12), was a patron of George Whitefield, the eminent Methodist missionary.
Alongside his missionising endeavours, Whitefield owned estates in South America, which were worked by slave labour.
In his Will, he bequeathed all his American property to the pious Selina, Countess of Huntingdon.
Whitefield's American property included 75 black slaves.
