With reference to the fine of £2,000 plus costs imposed on the owners of a Brighton restaurant following complaints about refuse and food waste, I most certainly agree this was a very important issue and should have been dealt with immediately.

However, should not travellers who vacate sites leaving rubbish which also attracts vermin, causes smells and reflects badly on the image of the city, be dealt with in a similar manner?

This is extremely unpleasant and unhygienic for residents living near these sites.

If the travellers cannot, or will not, pay a fine, money to pay for the clearance of their rubbish should be deducted from benefits they are receiving. Why should we pay for it?
