Albion boss Peter Taylor wants Bobby Zamora to put himself on the spot again.
He expects the young hotshot to retain the penalty taking role against Cambridge United at Withdean on Saturday.
Zamora had a penalty saved in Tuesday's FA Cup elimination by Preston.
It was only his second miss since taking over from Paul Watson 13 months ago, adding to one at Wrexham in September which robbed him of a hat-trick.
Taylor believes his 19 goal star is still the man for the job.
"It will be Zamora as far as I am concerned, but he has got to want to take it," Taylor said.
"I will be talking to him about it, but he gets my vote. He is such a good finisher."
Charlie Oatway faces a fitness fight to lead the Seagulls out on Saturday after he was forced off against Preston.
Taylor said: "He got a wack on the ribs and he hurt his ankle as well, so he was only 75 per cent fit in the second half.
"I think he might struggle to train."
Albion have a natural replacement in Paul Rogers, who has lost the captaincy to Oatway. Rogers is available again after a two-match ban.
Simon Royce is expected to recover from a bruised left foot to make his home debut in goal.
Two non-League clubs are chasing unsettled midfielder Geoff Pitcher.
Taylor revealed: "Wokingham and Dagenham and Redbridge both want him on loan, but as yet nothing has been agreed."
Taylor watched Pitcher and new signing David Lee from Hull in a 3-0 win for the Reserves at Northampton yesterday. Will Packham was back between the posts following his full debut blunder against Preston and Dirk Lehmann was among the goal-scorers.
Taylor is waiting to hear whether Motherwell want to take Lehmann back to Scotland.
The German striker has just returned from a short trial with the Premier League club, having joined the Seagulls from Hibernian in the summer.
