The proposal for flats in Carlisle Road, Hove (The Argus, January 11) is part of the partnership between Brighton and Hove City Council, Brighton Housing Trust and South Downs Health to deal with the very pressing housing needs of people with mental health problems.
The ever-growing demand for mental health treatment and care has been well documented. Providing proper housing with help from skilled staff is part of the solution.
Projects such as the proposed flats in Carlisle Road mean fewer people will leave hospital for bed-and-breakfast accommodation with little support.
Those using the flats will have supervised support and will be capable of living independently.
This is part of a package of measures that aims to help us offer the best possible care to people in the right place at the right time.
