Russell Mason is delighted to be back in football at Lewes.

The former Horsham, Ringmer and Redhill boss has been appointed as the Rooks' first director of football development.

Mason's new role covers a broad range of aspects designed to help the club move forward.

First team manager Jimmy Quinn retains overall control of footballing matters but welcomes the appointment.

Quinn said: "He is going to help the club in many ways. He went to watch Kidsgrove last week. He will watch and do reports on other teams and he will watch players we might be looking at.

"He can also help with the coaching for all three teams. It is important we make sure the youth team and reserves continue to get help. It is a good time of the season to get a fresh face in and it is a boost for us."

Mason was instrumental in the signing of striker Germain Amanuel but his role is more encompassing than just bringing new faces to the club.

Mason, who has been coaching at Horsham YMCA, explained: "In essence it means that I will be working with all players in the club from the kids up to the first team.

"It is an administrative job as well. A lot of structure needs to be put in place at the club to achieve the ambitions of the board. It is a different challenge. Like everything I have done I will throw everything in it and give it a lot of energy."
