Crawley's leisure facilities could be in for a major shake-up under plans to be published this week.
Crawley Leisure Centre could be demolished and a new centre built on a school site.
A number of school sports facilities would be upgraded and opened to the public.
Councillors will debate the proposals this week when a report on Crawley's sports and recreation strategy is published.
John Thraves, director of community services, said the discussions were at an early stage.
He said: "We don't know yet whether any of the options are feasible but if they are, this offers a major opportunity to make sports facilities for the town which are second to none."
The joint feasibility study has been undertaken by Crawley Council and West Sussex County Council to consider improving sport provision in four secondary schools as part of a £60 million private finance initiative scheme.
This will allow the rebuilding of Thomas Bennett and Ifield Community Colleges, a new school in Maidenbower and the remodelling of Hazelwick School.
One school is likely to get a new leisure centre while the other three will have their facilities upgraded.
