Seaford's revival under player-manager Duncan Kneller continued in style as they crushed Mile Oak 6-2 at The Crouch.

With this Seaford moved up three places to seventh in County League division two on Saturday.

None of the top five were in league action. Leaders Shoreham, East Grinstead and East Preston were all victims of postponements while second-placed Rye and Iden United were involved in RUR Cup action with Sidlesham. Eastbourne Town were without a game.

Seaford took advantage to close the gap as boss Kneller, with his eighth of the season, Jon Snelgrove (2), Chris Stanyard, Geoff Sallows and substitute Simon Young all found the net. Neil Roberts replied with a brace for the visitors.

Kneller said: "The objective was survival when I first took over and I think we have probably achieved that now.

"The top five sides have really sorted themselves out and if we can finish just below them in sixth or seventh I will be absolutely delighted.

He added: "It is a shame we have left it so late because we could have caused a few upsets for those sides above us. The three defeats we have had since I took over have been against top five sides and by the odd goal. We have a young side and next season we will want to take it on a step and beat those sides."

The game was marred by a double sending off in injury time following a flare up, with Seaford losing substitute Adam Livings and Mile Oak Tony Marks.

Oaks boss Mark Cox said: "Seaford deserved to win as they work well as a unit. However, we have a problem as we have never come from behind to win a game this season. It's a confidence thing but we seem to wilt as soon as the other team score."

Another side moving in the right direction are Worthing United who beat Oakwood 2-0 with a double from Nigel Waller.

Manager Geoff Raynsford said: "I think that was our sixth game unbeaten and the main reason is we now have virtually all our squad back and we are reproducing our early season form."

Waller got his first after Paul Curtis and Steve Pickles combined to put him in from close range and his second was also a tap-in after Adam Westwood crossed.

Raynsford added: "The game was played in very difficult, muddy conditions but we produced some of our most attractive football of the season."

Westfield remain fourth from bottom but are 13 points clear of the relegation zone following their 2-1 triumph over Crawley Down in which Darrol Parris and Terry Harris got their goals. Richard Bolingbroke replied for Down.

Westfield chairman Graham Drinkwater said: "Hopefully we have turned the corner now. We are not taking anything for granted but we still have to play the bottom teams Storrington and Bosham twice each."

Basement side Storrington are not ready to give in despite slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Oving as Nigel Dyer took sole charge for the first time since joint-manager Bob Paine's resignation.

Dyer, who regularly plays but dropped himself to the bench to cope with the added responsibility, said: "I am not one for throwing in the towel. Every week the attitude from the players has been tremendous."

Storrington's Chris Phillips skimmed the bar early on but a 30-yarder by Brian Clarke and Mike Godolphin's effort sealed the points.

Broadbridge Heath kept ahead of Oving with a 2-1 win at Bosham as Paul Young and James Brown got the goals. Booth replied for the hosts.

In the RUR Cup, Rye and Iden grabbed a 2-1 victory over division one Sidlesham after Simon Colbran netted in the 90th minute. Shaun Loft had fired Rye ahead after ten minutes but Owen levelled six minutes from time.
